Mr Terry Doyle

A former Cardinal Langley pupil. I am married to a teacher who works in Blackburn and have 3 children, all of whom attended St. Peter’s prior to continuing their education at Cardinal Langley. Whilst the youngest remains there studying for his A Levels, the 2 older children are now at Newcastle University.

After service as a Royal Navy Officer, I have spent 20 years working within Financial Services, including the last 11 years managing an independent mortgage brokerage.

As a Foundation Governor for over 10 years, I am Chair of the Resources Committee and serve on the Pupil and Curriculum Committee.

Father Kieren Mullarkey

I was ordained a priest in 2003 at my home Parish of St. Catherine’s in Didsbury. Throughout my ministery I have served on a variety of Governing Bodies both as Chairman and Vice-Chairman, and have enjoyed my involvement in working in both primary and secondary schools.

For the last 6 years I have served as Chairman of Governors at St. Peter’s, a role I have enjoyed and found greatly rewarding. Over the last few years the Bishop has asked his clergy, due to ever increasing workloads, to step down from this role and so in November I resigned as Chairman and was elected Vice-chairman.

As the Parish Priest and ex officio Foundation Governor I believe fundamentally in the richness and vibrancy of Catholic education, and think that we need reminding that the church has been providing education for centuries, whereas the government is the New Kid’s on the Block!

We don’t always get it right, but as Catholic Governors we always act for the best interests of your children and the Catholic family of Middleton. It is a priviledge as a Governor to do that!

Mrs Christine Halliwell

I am a retired teacher and married to Jim for 44 years. I attended St. Peter’s School as a child and have been in the Parish all my life. As well as ourselves, my parents were married at St. Peter’s in 1936 and both my children were married in St. Peter’s and received all their sacraments there. I have 4 grandchildren and I spend a lot of time with them. We are a very close family and enjoy holidays and days out together.

Mrs Maria Sowerby

My name is Maria Sowerby and i am a Foundation Governor at St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School.

I have lived in St. Peters parish for over 30 years and before that Our Lady’s parish on Langley. As a child I lived and was educated in Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland and am very proud of my Irish heritage. While at college I met my future husband and settled in Middleton where we raised our 3 children. I take an active role in the parish life of St. Peter’s being a reader and a member of the SVP.

For almost 30 years I was a primary school teacher, working mainly in the Infant department of Christ the King Catholic Primary School in Newton Heath and have many happy memories of my time there. My main responsibility there was as R.E. Co-ordinator.

Mrs Karen Gavin

My name is Karen Gavin and I have been a Foundation School Governor at St. Peter’s since September 2012.

I am 43 years old. Whilst growing up I was an only child and lived with both my parents in Middleton, Harpurhey and later as a teenager moved to Blackley. I attended Harper Mount Nursery in Harpurhey then went to St. Dunstan’s RC Primary school in Moston. At age eleven I went to St. Matthew’s RC High School in New Moston. After passing my O Levels I went onto a business studies/administration college in Manchester city centre, where I studied business studies, accounts and other admin skills. A year later I started as a junior in a chartered accountants in Stevenson Square, Manchester. Six months later I went to work in the payroll department of Securicor Omega Services at Salford Quays, where I was a Payroll/HR clerk. I left in February 2000 to join Rochdale council which is where I still work now as a Payroll/HR Officer at No 1 Riverside, Rochdale Centre.

I live with my husband and three children within St. Peter’s parish and attend mass at St. Peter’s Church. My children have all attended St. Peter’s school. My eldest Elle now attends Cardinal Langley 6th Form, my middle child, Lewis also attends Cardinal Langley and is now in his final year and my youngest, Mason is still presently in Yr 6 at St. Peter’s and hopefully he will also be going to Cardinal Langley.

In my spare time I have many interests. I’m an ASA qualified level 2 swimming coach/instructor and I am an active member of Middleton Amateur Swimming Club where I voluntary teach/coach children between the ages of 5-16 on a weekly basis. I like spending time with my family, eating out, cinema, socializing with friends, family holidays, swimming, jogging and all general fitness. Not only do I feel everyone should be active to keep healthy, I’m always keen to support all competitive sports wherever possible. When possible I also enjoy supporting and socializing in most parish and school events at St. Peter’s. I also have a great love of wildlife and animals.

I was brought up within a catholic family and taught strong catholic values to always be as good as I can be, so this is also what I hope to pass onto my family, friends and colleagues.

Mrs Charlotte McGarry

My name is Charlotte McGarry. I have lived in Middleton all my life. I am the eldest of three children. We attended St. Thomas More School. I was baptised, confirmed and made my first Holy Communion there.

After a short career in banking I decided to go back to university and qualified as a Primary School teacher with a BA (Hons) in Primary Education.

During that time I performed with the A.O.D.S and part of the music group, playing guitar and singing in the choir at St. Thomas More Church. I was also a member of the local gym.

I started work at St. Peter’s School in September 2006. I got married at St. Peter’s Church in 2011.

I had my first child Patrick in 2012 followed by Bridget in 2013 both children were baptised at St. Peter’s Church.

I returned to work part – time.

St. Peter’s Church and Parishioner’s are a big part of mine and my family’s life.
