Religion - Learning about the Church
We have been learning all about the church: parts of a church, what happens at Mass and who the special people are who help at church. Today, we have been learning that the parish family come together after Mass (often for tea and treats!) To help us remember this, we decorated biscuits with symbols such as the cross and love hearts to show Jesus loves us all. We enjoyed eating the biscuits afterwards too!
Maths - Place Value
We have been using lots of different types of practical apparatus to help us develop a deeper understanding of numbers to 20. Have a look at us in action in the photos below.
New Provision Areas
We are enjoying getting to know all of our new continuous provision areas. They will help us to develop in phonics, fine motor skills, creativity and many more! We have lots of areas to help support us in our learning about Antarctica this half term, too.
What better way to finish off 2022 than with marshmallow toasting?! We wrapped up nice and warm and had a great time with our friends!
Great Fire of London Day
We had a great time for Great Fire of London Day. We did lots of cross-curricular learning. We baked bread, using scales to measure the ingredients, we coloured / drew pictures of the great fire, did lots of shape work and even practised a sign language song all about the Great Fire of London.
DT - Tasting Fruits
We have been tasting a range of fruits to help us plan our own smoothies. Some of us were brave and tried fruits that were new to us, such as kiwi and pineapple. Some of us liked them more than we thought we would!
Music - Our Bonfire Night Song
We hope you enjoy listening to our bonfire night song. We have been learning about long and short sounds and timing in our music lessons.
Mad Science Assembly
This week, 'Explosive Erica' from Mad Science, came and delivered an exciting assembly all about the science of sound. The children watched Erica demonstrate how sounds are made and how sounds can change volume and pitch. Some children were lucky enough to take part and we were all amazed by her fire hands at the end. Mad Science will hopefully be delivering a science club in school next term. To register for a place please follow the link below.
We have had a great time settling into our new class so far. We have enjoyed getting familiar with all of the new continuous provision areas and playing with our friends.
Music - Long and Short Sounds
We have loved using body percussion and individual instruments to listen to and make long and short sounds!
Religion - Saint Francis
We have been learning all about our class saint - Saint Francis of Assisi. We each made our own paper plate animals for a display, helping us to remember that Saint Francis is the patron Saint of animals and the environment.
Reading for Pleasure
In year 1, we are really enjoying choosing books from our reading area and reading with friends or quietly by ourselves. We can choose from a range of genres: from fiction to atlases and poetry to information texts.
Science / Understanding the World
We have been learning all about Autumn. In continuous provision, we have been making our own pumpkins using play dough. We have also been learning how to complete a still life drawing of pumpkin in art. We have looked at a range of real life pumpkins and studied how the trees and leaves are changing.
We are enjoying using a range of maps, 3D globes and atlases to look at the countries and continents of the world. We have been learning all about the equator and how countries are hotter when they are close to it. We have been learning about animals that live in different climates.
