AUTUMN TERM
Dance, dance, dance!
Year four have been absolutely smashing their contemporary, hip-hop dance lessons. Check out their latest lesson. Mr Lord thinks we may even have the next Justin Bieber or Ariana Grande in the making. Well done once again Year four.
Computing/English
During one of our English lessons this week the children were given the opportunity to research the main character in our English writing lessons. We went on a fact finding mission to discover everything we could about Polar Bears. We found some amazing facts such as: Polar Bears actually have transparent fur, it is not white! Their fur reflects light making it look white. We also explored their habitats, life expectancy, diet and predatory behaviours. Some children got to show off their super skills when using the desk top computers. Bartosz in particular was an ICT whizz. Well done year 4
Art
Continuing from last week’s art lesson, we expanded our skills to create a 3D painting using lighter and darker shades of blue. We slowly added white or black to our base colour. We used squared paper to help us and painted each square at a time. The results were very affective.
Art
During our art lesson this week, Year four are exploring how to lighten or darken a primary colour by adding black or white to create different shades. We are also learning how to make tints and tones and will be mixing colours during our next lesson. We experimented with the shades by creating a sunset picture, thinking of where the colour would be .lighter depending on its closeness to the sun. We had a very relaxing afternoon creating our masterpieces whilst listening to Kate Bush, our celebrated artist of the month. Well done year four.
Science
Teeth, teeth and more teeth! Year four are thoroughly enjoying learning about the human body, today’s lesson was all about our terrific teeth. We looked at how important our teeth are for the development of our speech and how each tooth plays a different role. We then created our own model using salt dough, we used mirrors to count our teeth and tried to mould the teeth into the correct shape depending on it’s position and shape. They did a fantastic job!
History
This term we are learning all about how the lives of children may have changed since Tudor times. We are comparing Tudor life- Victorian life -present day and looking at what continuities there are and also what differences. We came up with questions for a master and his young apprentice “Henry” a ten year old glover apprentice during the 1500’s. The children worked in pairs and had a range of different questions relating to conditions, home life and his feelings on living away from home at such a young age.
Science
This term year four will be learning all of the weird and wonderful things about our digestive system. We have been experimenting with different steps to replicate the ability of all of the organs. We crushed weetabix just like the mouth would, we pushed the weetabix with added saliva (water) through the funnel to show how the oesophagus pushes food into the stomach. Then we emptied the contents into a bag and added acid to show the breaking down of the food. The excitement built as we moved the mixture into the small intestine where we saw the water extracted from the tights into the bowl. Finally the waste product, once all of the nutrients were absorbed into the blood via the large intestine was pushed out of the bottom of the tights to demonstrates what happens when we poo!
PE
Year 4 have made a great start in their PE lessons this week, they have been learning how to strengthen their core muscles and also how to perform an egg roll correctly. Mr Lord was very impressed with them. Well done year 4!
