Fieldwork

Here at St Peter's, we want to give children hands on Geography experiences. Throughout the year, we have a series of fieldwork opportunities planned for most years groups along with other school trips to help the children to develop their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

Fieldwork connects children to their local environment, creates memories and helps to develop identity.  Fieldwork also helps us to promote 'Cultural capital' which  is all about providing children with experiences and opportunities to help them progress and achieve success.

In the Spring term, Year 6 completed fieldwork at Castleshaw Centre in Delph. The focus of the trip was for children to learn how the implementation of wind turbines is helping in our fight against Global Warming. The children spent the day observing wind turbines, discussing how they work and then they debated about the use of them and the impact they have on our environment, Many of the children said they had a wonderful time doing something they wouldn't usually do and have told their families all about their experience too.

Have a look at some photos of the day...

Kenya

Thankyou to our very own Mr. Lord for coming into teach Year 2 all about his trip to Kenya. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to Mr. Lord's stories and looking through his photographs! It was a wonderful way to end our Geography unit based on comparing Middleton to a contrasting place.

Thank you Mr. Lord.
